To obtain the correct positioning in the workpiece inspection tool, the first is to find the positioning datum correctly, and the second is to select the appropriate positioning element.
Positioning Method
The priority levels are hole positioning, hole + surface positioning, hole + contour positioning, surface positioning, texture + shape positioning, and contour. 
Usually, hole positioning, surface positioning, contour positioning, or a combination of the above methods are used. The selection of the positioning system must be consistent with the model system (including positioning holes and positioning surfaces).

1. The limit base surface should have sufficient precision, and the positioning components should have the precision necessary to ensure the positioning accuracy of the workpiece.

2.  The limit base surface should have good wear resistance. Since the working surface of the positioning element often contacts and rubs with the workpiece, it is prone to wear. Therefore, the wear resistance of the limit surface of the positioning element is required to ensure the service life and positioning accuracy.

3.  The supporting element should have sufficient strength and rigidity. The positioning element is affected by the gravity and clamping force of the workpiece during use. Therefore, the positioning element must have enough power and rigidity to avoid deformation and damage during use.

4.  The positioning components should have good manufacturability, and the positioning components should be simple and reasonable in structure, easy to manufacture, assemble and replace.

5.  The positioning element should be easy to clear iron filings and impurities. The positioning element's structure and the working surface's shape are conducive to removing iron filings and impurities. Large welding parts, welding slag, and workshop dust are easily mixed into the positioning element, affecting positioning accuracy.
